So, you blasted full force into 2017. You were going to get in shape. You were going to soar in your career. The things that 2017 had in store for you were endless and it was all going to happen. But, now you are three weeks in, already losing momentum, and not seeing any results. What now?
Well, the first thing to remember is to not get frustrated. Goals take time. And, unfortunately, the bigger the goal, the more time it usually takes to get there. You won't typically lose 30 pounds in three weeks or have already made such an impression on your boss that he/she wants to give you a raise. However, three weeks is a great period of time to create habits, as it only takes 21 days to create one. So, start creating everyday habits that will help contribute towards your goals.
Another thing that may be worth considering is re-evaluating your goals. According to Project Smart, a website dedicated to providing "free, high-quality, ethical content in an accessible form while encouraging an open discussion", goals should be S-M-A-R-T.
This graphic breaks this concept down further:
Be practical and honest with yourself when you are setting/assessing these goals. If you aren't, you are really setting yourself up for failure. Not success.
Once you have assessed your goals, make sure to create fun ways that you can remember them! There are so many ideas as to how to do this; Whether you want to use daily sticky notes or write a count down on your calendar. Maybe you are a vision board person. Whatever works for you and naturally plays into your routine is going to be best. In addition, there are a ton of apps out there to help you. Here are a few that were advised on Entrepreneur.com.
Lastly, try not to be too hard on yourself. Your thoughts influence your actions and if you are negative about how slow you are progressing or you repeat negative thoughts too often, it will likely hinder you. So be kind to yourself. Create a mantra and stick with it. Understand that some days will be great and others will make you feel miserable--and that's okay. And whatever you do, don't give up on yourself or your goals. You got this.
Hope that this guide helps you in your endeavors. Now get out there and show 2017 who's boss!
